Replacing the oil pump oil seal in an automatic transmission Ford Focus 2
Required tools and materials:
* Set of keys
* Head set
* Screwdriver
* O-ring for automatic transmission oil pump oil seal
* Transmission fluid
* Hoses and container for draining transmission fluid
Instructions:
1. Remove the engine crankcase protection:
* Using a wrench, unscrew the bolts securing the engine crankcase protection.
* Remove the engine crankcase protection.
2. Drain the transmission fluid:
* Loosen the nut on the automatic transmission oil pan using a wrench.
* Place a drain container under the automatic transmission oil pan.
* Using a screwdriver, pry up the edge of the automatic transmission oil pan and allow the transmission fluid to drain into a container.
* Completely unscrew the nut and remove the automatic transmission oil pan.
* A small amount of transmission fluid may leak when removing the automatic transmission oil pan.
3. Remove the automatic transmission oil pump:
* Unscrew the bolts securing the automatic transmission oil pump in the gearbox housing using a wrench or socket.
* Using a screwdriver, pry up the automatic transmission oil pump and remove it from the gearbox housing.
* Remember the position of the automatic transmission oil pump gasket.
4. Replace the automatic transmission oil pump oil seal:
* Using a screwdriver, carefully pry and remove the old automatic transmission oil pump oil seal.
* Clean the seat of the automatic transmission oil pump oil seal from debris and remnants of the old oil seal.
* Install the O-ring on the automatic transmission oil pump shaft.
* Lubricate the new automatic transmission oil pump seal with transmission fluid.
* Install a new automatic transmission oil pump oil seal in its seat.
5. Install the automatic transmission oil pump:
* Install the automatic transmission oil pump into place in the transmission housing.
* Install the automatic transmission oil pump gasket.
* Tighten the bolts securing the automatic transmission oil pump using a wrench or socket.
6. Install the automatic transmission oil pan:
* Clean the automatic transmission oil pan from the remains of the old gasket.
* Apply a new gasket to the automatic transmission oil pan.
* Reinstall the automatic transmission oil pan and tighten the nut.
7. Fill with transmission fluid:
* Pour the required amount of transmission fluid into the automatic transmission sump.
* Check the transmission fluid level using the automatic transmission dipstick.
8. Install the engine crankcase protection:
* Reinstall the engine crankcase guard and tighten the bolts with a wrench.
Check and tips:
* Check the transmission fluid level after starting the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
* If transmission fluid is leaking, check that the automatic transmission oil pump seal or other seals are installed correctly.
* It is recommended to replace the transmission fluid and automatic transmission filter when replacing the automatic transmission oil pump seal.
* Follow the vehicle manufacturer’s instructions and automatic transmission service manual.
