Materials required to change the Mitsubishi Outlander automatic transmission oil:

* New original transmission oil SP-III or J4
* New automatic transmission oil filter
* Automatic transmission pan gasket
* Sealant for oil pan
* Carburetor cleaner
* 10 mm hex key
* Wrench for unscrewing the automatic transmission oil filter
* Funnel
* Container for draining old oil

Procedure for changing automatic transmission oil in Mitsubishi Outlander:

1. Prepare the vehicle: Place the vehicle on a level surface and apply the parking brake. Allow the engine to cool as hot oil can burn.

2. Raise the vehicle: Raise the vehicle using a jack and place safety stands underneath it.

3. Remove the engine guard (if equipped): If your vehicle has an engine guard, remove it to provide access to the automatic transmission oil pan.

4. Drain the old oil: Place a drain container under the automatic transmission oil pan. Take a 10mm hex wrench and loosen the oil pan bolts. Remove the oil pan, allowing the oil to drain into a container.

5. Replace the oil pan: Remove the old gasket from the oil pan and install a new one. Apply sealant to the surface of the oil pan where it will contact the automatic transmission housing. Reinstall the oil pan and tighten the bolts with a hex wrench.

6. Replace the automatic transmission oil filter: Locate the automatic transmission oil filter on the side of the automatic transmission housing. Use a wrench to unscrew the oil filter and remove it. Lubricate the new oil filter with fresh oil and screw it into place.

7. Fill in new oil: Take a funnel and insert it into the oil fill hole on the automatic transmission housing. Fill the required amount of new oil into the gearbox. Mitsubishi recommends changing 6-8 liters of automatic transmission oil for most Outlander models.

8. Check the oil level: Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Shift the gear shift lever to each position (P, R, N, D) for a few seconds. Then switch back to Parking mode (P) and turn off the engine.

9. Unscrew the drain plug: Find the drain plug on the automatic transmission oil pan and unscrew it slightly. If oil begins to leak from the hole, screw the plug back in and go to step 10.

10. Add oil: If the oil does not flow out, there is not enough oil in the gearbox. Add a little more oil and check the level again. Repeat this process until oil begins to flow out of the drain hole.

11. Install the drain plug and engine guard: Screw the drain plug back onto the oil pan. Reinstall the engine protection, if present.

12. Reset the oil aging indicator (on some models): Some Outlander models are equipped with an automatic transmission oil aging indicator. You need to reset this counter after changing the oil. Consult your vehicle’s owner’s manual for specific instructions on how to reset the meter.

13. Check for Leaks: Clean the oil pan and area around the transmission of any spilled oil with carburetor cleaner. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Check under the car for oil leaks.

Mitsubishi Outlander automatic transmission oil change intervals:

Mitsubishi recommends changing the automatic transmission oil in the Outlander every 60,000-90,000 km for normal operating conditions. However, if you drive in severe conditions, such as towing or hauling cargo, it is recommended to reduce the oil change interval to 30,000-45,000 km.
