Checking the oil level in the Nissan X-Trail automatic transmission
Materials:
* Wrench
* Gloves
* Dry cloth
* Automatic transmission fluid level dipstick
Instructions:
1. Place the car on a level surface. Stop the engine and let it cool for 15-20 minutes.
2. Find the automatic transmission fluid level dipstick. It is usually located in the engine compartment next to the engine and is yellow or red and labeled “ATF”.
3. Pull out the dipstick and wipe it with a dry cloth.
4. Insert the dipstick back into the tube and pull it out again. The fluid level should be between the “HOT” and “COLD” marks on the dipstick.
5. If the fluid level is below the “COLD” mark: Add automatic transmission fluid through the dipstick plug. Use only the fluid recommended by the manufacturer.
6. Check the fluid level again. Pull out and insert the dipstick to make sure the level is between the marks.
7. Reinstall the dipstick. Tighten the dipstick plug.
Notes:
* Check the automatic transmission fluid level regularly, especially before long trips.
* If the fluid level is significantly below the “COLD” line, contact your mechanic immediately. This may indicate a leak.
*Using the wrong automatic transmission fluid can damage the transmission. Always use the fluid recommended by the manufacturer.
