Materials and tools:
* Automatic transmission oil (advice on type and volume will be provided at the service station)
* New automatic transmission oil filter
* Automatic transmission pan gasket
* Funnel
* Wrenches
* Container for draining old oil (volume of at least 3 l)
Instructions:
1. Preparation:
* Make sure the engine is cold and on a level surface.
* Park in the parking lot and put the car in park (P).
* Apply the parking brake.
2. Draining old oil:
* Locate the automatic transmission pan under the car. This is a rectangular or oval metal lid.
* Unscrew the drain plug of the pan with a wrench.
* Drain the old oil into a prepared container. Be careful as it may be hot.
3. Removing the pallet:
* Unscrew the screws securing the pallet with a wrench.
* Carefully remove the pan, holding it so that the oil does not spill.
4. Replacing the oil filter:
*Locate the oil filter inside the pan. It is a cylindrical object with holes.
*Remove the old filter and install a new one.
*Tighten the filter by hand.
5. Cleaning the tray:
* Clean the pan of old oil and dirt.
* Remove deposits with a magnet.
6. Installation of the pallet:
* Apply a new gasket to the automatic transmission pan.
* Attach the pan to the gearbox and tighten the mounting screws.
7. Filling with new oil:
* Open the hood and find the automatic transmission dipstick.
* Insert a funnel into the dipstick inlet.
* Fill the transmission with new oil according to the amount specified in the owner’s manual.
8. Checking the oil level:
* Remove the automatic transmission dipstick and wipe it with a clean cloth.
* Insert the dipstick back and pull it out after a few seconds.
* The oil level should be between the “HOT” and “COLD” marks on the dipstick.
*If the oil level is low, add a little more.
9. Resetting the oil aging counter:
* Some Nissan Terrano models have an oil aging counter. To reset it, follow these steps:
* Turn on the ignition and wait until all warning lights appear on the instrument panel.
* Turn off the ignition.
* While holding down the mileage reset button, turn on the ignition.
*Release the mileage reset button after 3 seconds.
* Turn off the ignition and repeat the procedure twice.
10. Final stage:
* Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes.
* Shift the gear selector to all positions and return to the “P” position.
* Check the oil level again.
* Install the engine cover.
