Changing the oil in an automatic transmission on a Nissan Sunny
Required tools and materials:
* New gear oil recommended by the manufacturer
* Transmission pan gasket
* Transmission filter (optional)
* 10 mm socket wrench
* 24 mm socket wrench
* Funnel
* Clean rags
Instructions:
1. Place the vehicle on a level surface and apply the parking brake.
2. Warm up the engine and gearbox. This will help thin the oil and make it easier to drain.
3. Raise the front of the vehicle using jacks or a lift.
4. Place a container under the gearbox to collect old oil.
5. Unscrew the transmission oil pan drain plug using a 24 mm socket wrench. Be careful as the oil will flow out under pressure.
6. Allow the oil to drain completely. This may take some time.
7. Remove the transmission pan by unscrewing its mounting bolts using a 10 mm socket wrench.
8. Replace the oil pan gasket with a new one.
9. If necessary, replace the transmission filter. It is usually located inside the oil pan.
10. Clean the oil pan and drain plug of any dirt.
11. Reinstall the drain plug and tighten it with a wrench.
12. Install the transmission oil pan and tighten its mounting bolts using a wrench.
13. Pour new oil into the gearbox using a funnel. The volume and type of oil will depend on the specific Nissan Sunny model. Check your vehicle’s owner’s manual.
14. Install the transmission dipstick and check the oil level. The oil level should be between the “min” and “max” marks.
15. Start the engine and allow the transmission to warm up.
16. Check for leaks under the vehicle.
17. Drive the car for a while so that the oil is evenly distributed throughout the gearbox.
18. Check the oil level in the gearbox again. Add oil if necessary.
