Materials required to change the oil in a Mitsubishi Pajero Sport automatic transmission:
* New gear oil (about 5-6 liters, check your owner’s manual for the specific capacity)
* New gearbox oil filter
* Transmission oil pan gasket
* O-ring for drain plug
* Wrenches for unscrewing bolts and nuts
* Container for collecting old oil
* Funnel for filling new oil
*If necessary: OBDII scanner or ATF pressure gauge
Steps to change gearbox oil:
1. Preparation
* Place the vehicle on a level surface and apply the parking brake.
* Let the engine idle for 5-10 minutes to warm up the transmission oil.
* Turn off the engine.
2. Drain old oil
*Locate the transmission drain plug at the bottom of the oil pan.
* Place a collection container under the drain plug.
* Unscrew the drain plug and drain the oil.
3. Replacing the oil filter
* Find the transmission oil filter.
* Unscrew the mounting bolts and remove the old filter.
* Install a new oil filter and tighten the mounting bolts.
4. Cleaning the oil pan
* Unscrew the oil pan mounting bolts and remove it.
* Clean the pan of old oil and dirt.
* Reinstall the pan with a new gasket.
5. Filling with new oil
* Unscrew the filler plug on the side of the gearbox.
*Use a funnel to add approximately 4 quarts of new gear oil.
* Reinstall the filler plug.
6. Checking the oil level
* Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes.
*On some Pajero Sport models, the oil level can be checked using the ATF pressure gauge. Insert the pressure gauge into the port on the transmission and follow the gauge instructions.
7. Adjusting the oil level
* If the oil level is insufficient, add a little more oil through the filler plug.
* If the oil level is too high, drain the excess oil through the drain plug.
8. Clear error codes (if necessary)
*If any error codes occur when changing the transmission oil, use an OBDII scanner to clear them.
9. Re-check the oil level
* Drive the vehicle for a few minutes and check the transmission oil level again to ensure it is at the correct level.
