Materials and tools:

* New transmission oil for automatic transmission SP III
* Automatic transmission pan gasket
* Automatic transmission filter (optional)
* O-ring for drain plug
* Container for draining oil
* Funnel
* Wrench or ratchet
* Hex key (for some models)

Steps to change the oil in a Mitsubishi Carisma automatic transmission:

1. Prepare the vehicle: Park the vehicle on a level surface and set the parking brake. Allow the engine to cool so that the oil is not hot.

2. Remove the engine guard: If your vehicle has an engine guard, remove it to gain access to the transmission pan.

3. Locate the drain plug: The drain plug is usually located on the bottom of the automatic transmission pan.

4. Drain the old oil: Place a container to drain the oil under the drain plug and unscrew it with a hex key or wrench. Let the oil drain completely.

5. Replace the drain plug: Clean the drain plug and apply a new O-ring. Tighten the plug to 29 Nm.

6. Remove the automatic transmission pan: Unscrew the bolts securing the automatic transmission pan. Carefully remove the pan, being careful not to damage the gasket.

7. Replace the automatic transmission filter (optional): If you want to replace the automatic transmission filter, follow these steps:
– Remove the old filter and clean its seat.
– Install the new filter in the reverse order of removal.

8. Clean the pan and magnet: Clean the automatic transmission pan and magnet, removing any remaining metal and debris.

9. Install a new pan gasket: Apply a small amount of sealant to the new pan gasket and glue it to the automatic transmission pan.

10. Install the automatic transmission pan: Carefully place the pan in place and tighten the bolts to a force of 10 Nm.

11. Fill with new oil: Locate the filler plug on the side of the automatic transmission. Insert a funnel into the filler plug and add new oil. Use about 3 liters of oil.

12. Check the oil level: Start the engine and warm it up to operating temperature. Switch the automatic transmission selector to all positions and return to the parking position. Check the oil level using the automatic transmission dipstick. Top up if necessary.

13. Install the engine guard: Reinstall the engine guard if it was removed.

14. Reset the automatic transmission service counter (optional): Some Mitsubishi Carisma models have an automatic transmission service counter that must be reset after changing the oil. Consult your owner’s manual for instructions on how to reset the counter.

Recommended oil change interval:

The oil change interval in the Mitsubishi Carisma automatic transmission is 60,000 – 90,000 km or after 4-6 years, depending on operating conditions.
