Mitsubishi automatic transmission operating modes

P (Parking)

* The transmission is locked and the transmission output shaft is disabled.
* Used for parking or long-term parking of the car.

R (Reverse)

* The gearbox switches to reverse.
*Used for reversing.

N (Neutral)

* The gearbox is disconnected from the engine.
*Used when towing a vehicle or when the vehicle is stationary with the engine running.

D (Drive)

* Normal driving mode.
* The transmission shifts automatically to the appropriate gears depending on vehicle speed and load.

L (Low gear)

* The transmission shifts to a lower gear, which provides more traction and torque.
*Used for steep slopes, towing or low speed driving.

2 (Second gear)

* The transmission shifts to second gear, limiting movement to higher gears.
*Used for better control on slippery roads or when driving in mountainous areas.

1 (First gear)

* The transmission shifts to first gear, limiting movement to first gear only.
*Used for maximum traction and deceleration on steep slopes or when driving off-road.

S (Sport mode)

*More aggressive shift mode for faster acceleration and better power utilization.
* Shift points are changed to keep the engine in a higher rpm range.

A/M (Auto/Manual)

* Allows you to manually change gears, similar to a manual transmission.
* The transmission automatically shifts to higher gears, but you can use the gear selector to manually downshift.
