Mitsubishi automatic transmission oil pressure sensor

Function:

* Measures the oil pressure in the automatic transmission.
* Transmits pressure level data to the automatic transmission control module (TCM).
* The TCM uses this data to regulate oil pressure and optimize automatic transmission performance.

Location:

* Usually located on or near the automatic transmission housing.

Sensor types:

1. Mechanical sensor:

* Contains a flexible diaphragm that flexes under oil pressure.
*Bending the diaphragm moves the piston, which changes the resistance of the sensor.
* The TCM interprets a change in resistance as a change in oil pressure.

2. Electronic sensor:

*Uses piezoresistive pressure sensor.
* Oil pressure acts on the piezoresistive element, changing its resistance.
* The TCM interprets a change in resistance as a change in oil pressure.

Signs of malfunction:

* Flashing or illuminated oil pressure warning light.
* Slipping and harsh gear changes.
* Increased fuel consumption.
* Oil leaks from the automatic transmission.

Causes of malfunction:

* Sensor is dirty or clogged.
* Damage to the diaphragm or membrane.
* Electrical faults (open circuit, short circuit).
* Low oil level in automatic transmission.

Troubleshooting Tips:

* Check the oil level in the automatic transmission.
* Clean or replace the oil pressure sensor.
* Check the wiring harness going to the sensor.
* Scan the system for trouble codes related to the oil pressure sensor.
