Replacing the selector of an automatic transmission Mercedes W203

Tools and materials:

* New gear selector
* Set of keys or screwdrivers
* Funnel for filling transmission fluid
* Transmission fluid (AT)
* Contact cleaner

Instructions:

1. Disconnect the battery. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
2. Remove the center console cover. Remove the shifter cover and then remove the surrounding center console trim panel.
3. Disconnect the selector connectors. Identify the connectors connected to the gear selector and disconnect them.
4. Remove the gear selector. Loosen the mounting bolts holding the gear selector under the console and remove it.
5. Install a new gear selector. Align the new selector and install it in place, tightening the mounting bolts.
6. Connect the connectors. Connect the connectors to the new gear selector.
7. Install the center console cover. Install the trim panel and shifter cover.
8. Fill with transmission fluid. Add transmission fluid to the required level using a funnel.
9. Connect the battery. Connect the negative cable to the battery.
10. Reset the transmission adaptation. To do this, use a diagnostic tool (Star Diagnosis).
11. Run the test. Start the engine and shift through all gears to check the operation of the gear selector.
