Materials:
* Automatic transmission oil Mazda ATF-FZ, about 4-5 liters
* New filter for automatic transmission
* New automatic transmission pan gasket
* Drain plug O-ring
* Carburetor cleaner or thinner for degreasing pan and parts
* Rags or paper towels
Tools:
* Set of socket wrenches or sockets
* Ratchet wrench
* Funnel
* Tray for collecting used oil
* Gloves
Procedure:
1. Preparing the car:
* Place the car on a flat surface.
* Apply the parking brake.
* Allow the engine to cool.
2. Draining used oil:
* Remove the engine crankcase protection (if equipped).
* Locate the automatic transmission pan drain plug (usually on the driver’s side at the bottom of the pan).
* Install a pan to collect used oil under the drain plug.
* Using a hex wrench or socket wrench, carefully unscrew the drain plug.
* Allow the used oil to drain completely into the pan.
3. Replacing the automatic transmission filter:
* Disconnect the automatic transmission pan fastening.
* Carefully remove the pan from the vehicle.
* Find and remove the old automatic transmission filter from the pan.
* Reinstall the new filter, making sure it is inserted correctly.
4. Cleaning the automatic transmission pan:
* Clean the automatic transmission pan and magnet from metal shavings using carburetor cleaner or thinner.
* Blow compressed air (if available) through the holes and channels in the pan.
5. Installing the automatic transmission pan:
* Apply a thin layer of sealant to the new automatic transmission pan gasket.
* Reinstall the tray and secure it with bolts.
*Tighten bolts to manufacturer’s specifications.
6. Filling with new oil:
* Install a funnel into the automatic transmission filler hole (usually on the passenger side at the top of the transmission).
* Fill the automatic transmission with new ATF-FZ oil. Add oil gradually, checking the level using the automatic transmission dipstick.
* Pull the dipstick out, wipe it with a clean cloth, reinsert it and pull it out. The oil level should be between the “HOT” and “COLD” marks.
7. Checking the oil level:
* Start the engine and shift through all gears (P, R, N, D, S).
* Set the car to Parking mode (P).
*Wait a few minutes until the oil reaches operating temperature.
* Turn off the engine and wait another 2-3 minutes.
* Check the oil level using the automatic transmission dipstick. Adjust the oil level if necessary.
8. Resetting automatic transmission adaptations:
* Some Mazda models with automatic transmission require automatic transmission adaptations to be reset after an oil change. Refer to your vehicle’s owner’s manual for details on how to perform this procedure.
9. Cleaning:
* Put away all the tools and materials you used.
* Install the engine crankcase protection (if removed).
