Tools and materials:

* New heat exchanger gaskets
* Transmission fluid
* Pliers
* Phillips screwdriver
* Lift (optional)

Steps:

1. Safety first

* Place the vehicle in park and apply the parking brake.
*Wait until the engine cools down.
* Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.

2. Raise the car (optional)

* A lift will simplify access to the heat exchanger.

3. Remove transmission cover

* Locate the housing that covers the transmission.
* Remove the Phillips screws holding the casing in place.
* Remove the cover and set it aside.

4. Find the heat exchanger

* The heat exchanger is attached to the top of the automatic transmission housing.
* It consists of two parts connected by a tube.

5. Remove hoses from heat exchanger

* Using pliers, remove the clamps holding the hoses to the heat exchanger.
* Disconnect the hoses and drain the remaining transmission fluid.

6. Unscrew the heat exchanger bolts

* Unscrew the bolts securing the heat exchanger to the automatic transmission housing.
* Be careful not to drop the bolts into the transmission.

7. Remove the old heat exchanger

* Carefully remove the old heat exchanger by pulling it up.
* Carefully inspect the automatic transmission housing and, if possible, remove any remaining gasket.

8. Install a new gasket

* Apply a thin layer of sealant to the gasket.

9. Install a new heat exchanger

* Install the new heat exchanger on the automatic transmission housing, aligning the gasket.

10. Tighten the heat exchanger bolts

* Tighten the heat exchanger bolts by hand, then tighten them using a torque wrench to the specified torque.

11. Connect the hoses

* Connect the hoses to the heat exchanger and secure them with clamps.

12. Reinstall the transmission housing

* Install the transmission housing and tighten the Phillips screws.

13. Fill with new transmission fluid

* Fill with new transmission fluid according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.

14. Check fluid level

* Start the engine and let it idle.
* Check the transmission fluid level using the dipstick and add if necessary.

15. Bleed the system

* Shift gears for a few seconds in each position.
* Check the fluid level again and add if necessary.

16. Connect the battery terminal

* Connect the negative terminal of the battery.

17. Check for leaks

* Start the engine and inspect the heat exchanger and hoses for leaks.
* If leaks are found, repair them.

Adviсe:

*Use replacement gaskets.
* Before tightening the bolts, apply sealant to them.
* Place the vehicle on a level surface to ensure an accurate fluid level.
*Refer to your service manual for more detailed instructions specific to your specific vehicle.
