Manual mode automatic transmission

The manual mode of an automatic transmission (AT) allows the driver to simulate the operation of a manual transmission by manually selecting a gear, rather than relying on the vehicle’s computer to automatically select gears.

How to use manual mode:

1. Make sure the car is in “D” mode.
2. Locate the gear selector on the center console or steering wheel.
3. Move the selector to the “+/-” or “M” position. You can see the “?” characters. And “?” to shift gears up and down respectively.

Using manual mode:

* Upshift: To upshift, press the “+” button or pull the gear selector up (depending on vehicle model).
* Downshifting: To downshift, press the “-” button or pull the gear selector down.

When to use manual mode:

Manual mode can be useful in the following situations:

*For overtaking: Downshift to get more power and acceleration.
* When driving downhill: Downshifting will apply engine braking force, helping to slow the vehicle.
* Towing: Downshifting will provide the power and torque needed to haul heavy loads.
*For off-road driving: Downshifting will provide more torque and better handling on rough terrain.
*For a sportier driving experience: Manual mode allows the driver to control gear shifting, which can be more exciting than fully automatic mode.

Warnings:

* Do not downshift at high speed as this may cause engine damage.
* Avoid over-revving the engine at high speeds.
