How to use a Lexus automatic transmission
Gear selector positions:
*P (Park): Keeps the vehicle in place when parked.
* R (reverse): Switches the vehicle into reverse mode.
* N (neutral): Disconnects the transmission from the engine.
*D (Direct): Normal driving mode that automatically changes gears for optimal performance.
* S (Sport): Sport mode that holds gears at higher rpm for improved accelerator response.
* ECT (Electronically Controlled Transmission): Allows you to manually change gears by moving the selector left or right.
Usage:
1. To start the car:
* Apply the brake.
* Move the gear selector to position P.
* Start the engine.
2. To enter driving mode:
* Apply the brake and move the selector to position D.
3. To switch to reverse mode:
* Apply the brake and move the selector to R. A beep will sound.
4. To move to neutral:
* Apply the brake and move the selector lever to position N.
5. To park your car:
* Apply the brake and move the selector to position P.
* Turn off the engine.
6. To manually shift gears (ECT models only):
* Move the ECT selector left or right.
* Press the steering wheel shift paddles (/, -) to downshift or upshift.
Adviсe:
*Always use the footbrake rather than the gear selector to stop the vehicle.
* Do not shift into neutral while the vehicle is moving, as this may damage the transmission.
* Check the transmission fluid regularly and change the transmission fluid if necessary according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.
