How to operate an automatic transmission (AT)
1. Understanding the Gear Shift Lever
*P (Parking): Used when the vehicle is parked.
* R (Reverse): Used to move the vehicle in reverse.
* N (Neutral): Used when the vehicle is stationary with the engine running.
* D (Drive): Main gear for forward movement.
* S (Sport): Provides sportier handling by holding the gear at lower engine speeds.
* L (Low): Used for low speed driving, such as when driving on steep slopes or when towing.
2. Starting the car
*Press the brake pedal.
* Move the gear lever to the “P” position.
* Insert the key or press the start button.
* Release the brake pedal only after the engine starts.
3. Moving forward
*Press the brake pedal.
* Move the gear lever to position “D”.
* Release the brake pedal.
* The car will move forward and the gears will shift automatically.
4. Reversing
*Press the brake pedal.
* Move the gear lever to the “R” position.
* Release the brake pedal.
* The car will move in reverse.
5. Parking
*Press the brake pedal and stop the car.
* Move the gear lever to the “P” position.
*Remove the key or press the off button.
6. Tips
*Always depress the brake pedal before shifting the gearshift lever.
* Do not move the gearshift lever to the “P” position while driving, as this may damage the transmission.
* When towing a trailer, use the “L” position.
* In slippery conditions, use lower gears such as “2” or “L”.
* Maintain the automatic transmission regularly, following the manufacturer’s recommendations.
