Replacing an automatic transmission filter in a Toyota Land Cruiser 200
Tools and materials:
* New automatic transmission filter
* Automatic transmission pan gasket
* Ratchet wrench
* 10 mm head
* 12 mm head
* Flat head screwdriver
* Container for draining liquid
* Clean rags
Step by step instructions:
1. Unscrew the automatic transmission drain plug. Located at the bottom of the automatic transmission pan. Use a 10mm socket. Drain the automatic transmission fluid into a container.
2. Remove the automatic transmission pan. Unscrew the bolts securing the tray around the perimeter. Use a 12mm socket. Carefully separate the pan from the transmission.
3. Remove the old automatic transmission filter. The filter is located inside the automatic transmission pan. Unscrew the filter mounting bolts using a flat-head screwdriver.
4. Clean the automatic transmission pan. Remove any remaining automatic transmission fluid and dirt from the sump. Check the pan gasket and replace it if necessary.
5. Install a new automatic transmission filter. Insert the new filter into the pan and tighten the mounting bolts using a flathead screwdriver.
6. Install the automatic transmission pan. Reinstall the pan and tighten the mounting bolts using a 12mm socket. Tighten the bolts in a cross pattern to avoid uneven tightening.
7. Fill with automatic transmission fluid. Fill in new automatic transmission fluid through the filler hole on the transmission housing. The fluid level should be within the specified marks on the automatic transmission dipstick.
8. Start the engine. Start the engine and let it idle for about a minute. Shift the gear selector to all positions and return to the “P” position.
9. Check the automatic transmission fluid level. Check the automatic transmission fluid level 30 minutes after stopping the engine. Add fluid if necessary.
