Instructions for adjusting the kickdown cable of a Toyota Town Ace automatic transmission:
Required tools:
* 10 mm wrench
* Pliers
* Ruler or tape measure
Adjustment procedure:
1. Warm up the engine to operating temperature. This will ensure precise adjustment.
2. Find the kickdown cable. It connects to the throttle body and to the gearbox.
3. Unscrew the locknut. This nut is located on the end of the kickdown cable attached to the throttle body.
4. Set the gap between the cable sheath and the adjusting screw. The gap should be 1-3mm with the throttle fully closed. Use a ruler or tape measure to measure.
5. Tighten the locknut. Make sure that the gap between the cable sheath and the adjusting screw has not changed.
6. Check the adjustment. Start the engine and move the selector lever to position “D” (Drive). Slowly press the gas pedal. Gear shifting should occur smoothly and without jerking.
7. Repeat steps 3-6 if necessary. Adjust the kickdown cable until gear shifting is smooth.
Notes:
* Excessive play between the cable sheath and the adjusting screw may cause delayed shifting.
* Insufficient clearance may result in early shifting or slipping.
* If after adjusting the kickdown cable the gear shift still does not occur smoothly, the cable may need to be replaced.
