Materials:
* ATF (automatic transmission fluid) oil for Kia Sorento, type: SP-IV
* New automatic transmission oil filter
* Automatic transmission pan gasket
* Funnel for filling oil
* Keys, screwdriver and other tools
Steps:
1. Safety first
* Place the gear shift lever in the «Park» position.
* Put the car on the parking brake.
* Allow the engine to cool.
2. Find and remove the automatic transmission pan
* Raise the vehicle and block the wheel located on the opposite side of the transmission pan.
* Find the automatic transmission pan, it is usually located at the bottom of the transmission.
* Clean the area around the pan of dirt and debris.
* Loosen and remove the automatic transmission pan bolts.
* Carefully separate the pan from the transmission.
3. Remove and replace oil filter
* Locate the automatic transmission oil filter inside the pan.
* Using a wrench, carefully unscrew the oil filter.
*Remove the used filter and install a new one.
4. Replace the pan gasket
* Remove the old pan gasket and clean the contact surfaces of any old sealant or debris.
* Apply a thin layer of new sealant to the contact surfaces.
* Install a new pan gasket.
5. Install the automatic transmission pan
* Reinstall the automatic transmission pan and tighten the bolts. Do not overtighten the bolts.
6. Fill with new oil
*Using a funnel, fill the transmission with new ATF oil as directed in the owner’s manual.
* Check the oil level and add if necessary.
7. Reset the automatic transmission oil meter
* Start the engine and let it warm up.
* Move the gear lever between all positions.
* Stop the engine.
*Wait a few seconds and start the engine again.
*Wait until the Ignition Check indicator goes off.
* Turn off the engine and check the oil level. Top up if necessary.
8. Cleaning
* Clean the automatic transmission pan and tools from any remaining oil.
*Check under the car for leaks.
Automatic transmission oil change intervals:
* Typically, changing automatic transmission oil on a Kia Sorento is recommended every 50,000 — 60,000 km or more often in severe operating conditions.
Notes:
*Always use ATF oil recommended by the manufacturer.
* Replacing the oil filter and automatic transmission pan gasket will improve transmission efficiency.
* If you are not confident in your abilities, take the car to a car service center to change the automatic transmission oil.
