The process of changing the oil in a Kia Optima automatic transmission:
1. Preparing the car
* Place the car in parking.
* Place wheel chocks under the rear wheels.
* Allow the engine to cool.
2. Drain old oil
* Find the automatic transmission pan. It is usually located at the bottom of the transmission.
* Place a pan under the automatic transmission drain hole.
* Unscrew the drain plug and let the old oil drain.
3. Removing the automatic transmission pan
* When the oil stops flowing, unscrew the bolts securing the automatic transmission pan.
* Carefully remove the pan and drain the remaining oil.
4. Cleaning the pan and replacing the gasket
* Clean the automatic transmission pan from dirt and old sealant.

* Tighten the pan mounting bolts to the torque specified in the vehicle’s owner’s manual.
6. Filling with new oil
* Remove the dipstick and fill with new ATF.
* The amount of oil to be filled is indicated in the vehicle’s operating manual.
*Check the oil level periodically until it reaches the “MAX” mark on the dipstick.
7. Checking the oil level
* Start the engine and let it idle.
* Shift the gear lever to each position and hold each position for a few seconds.
* Return the gear shift lever to Park and check the oil level again.
*Add oil as necessary until it reaches the «MAXIMUM» mark on the dipstick.
8. Resetting the automatic transmission maintenance counter
*On some Kia Optima models, you may need to reset the automatic transmission maintenance counter after changing the oil. Consult your vehicle’s owner’s manual or local dealer for reset instructions.
Recommendations:
* Change the automatic transmission oil every 60,000-90,000 km or in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.
*Use only the ATF oil recommended for your Kia Optima model.
* If the automatic transmission pan has been damaged or heavily soiled, it may need to be replaced.
