Tools and materials:
* New transmission filter
* New transmission oil (the quantity depends on the Kia Karens model)
* Automatic transmission oil pan plug and washer
* Tubular wrench
* Funnel
* Container for collecting old oil
Instructions:
1. Preparation:
* Warm up the engine and gearbox to operating temperature.
* Place the vehicle on a level surface and apply the parking brake.
2. Draining old oil:
* Place a container to collect old oil under the automatic transmission oil pan.
* Unscrew the drain plug bolt using a tubular wrench.
*Wait until all the old oil has drained out.
3. Filter replacement:
* Remove the automatic transmission oil pan by unscrewing all the bolts.
*Remove the old filter and replace it with a new one.
* Clean the surface of the oil pan from any remaining old oil and gasket.
* Install a new gasket on the oil pan.
4. Installing the oil pan:
* Reinstall the oil pan and tighten all bolts.
* Tighten the drain plug bolt and install a new washer.
5. Filling with new oil:
* Pour new transmission oil into the gearbox through a funnel.
* The amount of oil depends on the Kia Karens model. Usually this is about 4-6 liters.
*Add oil little by little and check the level with the dipstick.
6. Checking the oil level:
* Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
* Shift the gear selector through all positions and return to the park position.
* Check the oil level using the dipstick. The oil level should be between the “Min” and “Max” marks.
*Add oil if necessary.
7. Resetting the maintenance counter:
*Locate the «TRIP» button on your vehicle’s control panel.
*Hold the TRIP button and turn on the ignition.
* Release the «TRIP» button when the display shows «rST».
*Press the TRIP button again to reset the maintenance counter.
Note:
* It is recommended to replace the transmission oil and filter every 60,000-100,000 km or every 3 years.
*Use only transmission oil recommended by the Kia manufacturer.
