Diagnosis of the problem

* Check for fault codes in the automatic transmission control unit using a diagnostic scanner.
* Perform a visual inspection of the automatic transmission selector for physical damage or wear.
* Check if the selector switches correctly and moves easily.

Required tools and materials

* Screwdriver set
* Wrenches 10 and 12 mm
* New automatic transmission selector (if necessary)

Step by step instructions

1. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
2. Remove the decorative panel around the automatic transmission selector. It is usually secured with latches or screws.
3. Disconnect the selector lever electrical connector. Press the latch and pull the connector.
4. Unscrew the bolts securing the selector to the console. Usually there are two 10 mm bolts.
5. Remove the mounting bracket. Press the tabs on both sides of the bracket and pull it up.
6. Disconnect the cable from the selector. Press the latch and disconnect the cable from the gear shift lever.
7. Remove the old selector from the car.
8. Install the new selector in reverse order:
* Install the selector on the console and secure it with bolts.
* Connect the cable to the gear shift lever.
* Reinstall the mounting bracket.
* Connect the electrical connector.
* Install the decorative panel.
9. Connect the negative terminal of the battery.
10. Check the operation of the selector. Make sure it shifts smoothly and easily.
11. Reset fault codes from the automatic transmission control unit.
