Tools and materials:
* New automatic transmission oil (consult your owner’s manual to determine the correct type and volume)
* New automatic transmission oil filter
* Automatic transmission crankcase gasket
* Drain plug O-ring
* Drain plug
* Oil pan
* Funnel
* Rags
Steps:
1. Raise the car. Raise the car or place it on a lift. Ensure vehicle stability.
2. Remove the engine protection. If there is one, remove the engine protection to gain access to the gearbox.
3. Locate the drain plug. The drain plug is located at the bottom of the automatic transmission housing.
4. Place the oil pan. Place the oil pan under the drain plug.
5. Drain the oil. Using a wrench or hex wrench, loosen the drain plug. Be careful as the oil may be hot. Allow the oil to drain completely into the pan.
6. Replace the drain plug. Once the oil has drained, clean the drain plug and replace the O-ring. Tighten the drain plug to the recommended torque.
7. Remove the oil pan. After unscrewing several bolts, remove the oil pan from the transmission.
8. Replace the oil filter. Remove the old oil filter and replace it with a new one. Make sure the O-rings on the new filter are clean.
9. Check the oil pan gasket. Inspect the oil pan gasket for damage or wear. Replace the gasket if necessary.
10. Clean the automatic transmission housing. Clean the automatic transmission crankcase of any remaining oil or debris.
11. Install the oil pan. Reinstall the oil pan onto the transmission and tighten the bolts to the recommended torque.
12. Start pouring new oil into the automatic transmission. Using a funnel, pour new automatic transmission oil into the transmission filler hole.
13. Check the oil level. Using the automatic transmission dipstick, check the oil level. Add oil as needed until the correct level is reached.
14. Start the engine and change gears. Start the engine and shift through all automatic transmission gears sequentially.
15. Check for leaks. Inspect the transmission and connections for leaks.
16. Install engine protection. If it was removed, install the engine protection back in place.
17. Lower the car. Slowly lower the vehicle from the jack or lift.
Notes:
* It is recommended to change the automatic transmission oil every 50,000-60,000 km or according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.
* If the automatic transmission oil is dark or has a burning smell, it may require more frequent changes.
* Dispose of old oil and oil filter according to local regulations.
* Consult the owner’s manual for details of your specific vehicle model.
