Required tools and materials:
* New Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) (check your owner’s manual for recommended type)
* Automatic transmission filter (if applicable)
* Oil pan gasket (if applicable)
* Set of wrenches or ratchets
*Square drive or 8mm socket
* Round drive or 14mm socket
* Funnel
* Container for draining used oil
Steps to change the oil in an automatic transmission on a Hyundai Matrix:
1. Set the vehicle’s parking brake and allow the engine to cool.
2. Raise the front of the car using a jack and secure it to racks.
3. Locate the automatic transmission oil pan. It is usually located at the bottom of the gearbox.
4. Place a container to drain the used oil under the oil pan.
5. Loosen the oil pan mounting bolts using a ratchet or 14mm wrench.
6. Loosen the bolts slightly, allowing the used oil to drain into the container.
7. When all the oil has drained, completely remove the oil pan and gasket.
8. Clean the oil pan and gasket from old sealant and oil residues.
9. If applicable, remove and replace the automatic transmission filter.
10. Install a new oil pan gasket onto the oil pan.
11. Apply sealant to the oil pan mounting bolts.
12. Reinstall the oil pan and tighten the mounting bolts using a ratchet or 14mm wrench.
13. Pour new automatic transmission oil into the transmission using a funnel.
14. The oil level can be checked using the automatic transmission dipstick or the filler bolt on the side of the transmission.
15. Start the engine and shift through all gears, holding each gear for a few seconds.
16. Check the oil level in the gearbox and add if necessary.
17. Lower the vehicle and remove the racks.
