Replacing the Hyundai Getz automatic transmission drive oil seal
Required tools and materials:
* New automatic transmission drive oil seal
*TORX set
* 17 mm wrench
* Lever extension
* Sealant for automatic transmission
* Degreaser
Steps:
1. Prepare the car
* Place the vehicle in park and apply the parking brake.
* Remove the negative terminal from the battery.
2. Remove the left wheel
* Loosen the wheel bolts using a 17mm wrench.
* Raise the car using a jack and place it on supports.
* Remove the wheel bolts and remove the wheel.
3. Remove the drive shaft
* Unscrew the hub mounting bolt using a TORX wrench.
* Unscrew the three bolts securing the drive to the gearbox using a TORX wrench.
* Carefully remove the drive shaft from the transmission.
4. Remove the old oil seal
* Use a screwdriver or flat metal plate to pry up the old oil seal and remove it.
5. Clean the seating surface
* Clean the seating surface on the gearbox of old sealant and dirt using a degreaser.
6. Install a new oil seal
* Lubricate the new oil seal with automatic transmission oil.
* Insert the new oil seal into the seat by hand, being careful not to damage it.
7. Install drive shaft
* Apply a small amount of automatic transmission sealant to the drive shaft splines and insert it into the transmission.
* Tighten the drive-to-gearbox mounting bolts using a TORX wrench.
* Tighten the hub bolt using a TORX wrench.
8. Install the wheel
*Install the wheel and tighten the wheel bolts using a 17mm wrench.
* Lower the vehicle and finally tighten the wheel bolts.
9. Shut down
* Connect the negative terminal to the battery.
* Check the oil level in the automatic transmission and add it if necessary.
Adviсe:
* When replacing the automatic transmission drive oil seal, it is recommended to also replace the automatic transmission oil.
*Before removing the wheel, make sure the hub bolts are slightly loosened to make them easier to remove after removing the wheel.
* Be careful when using a screwdriver or metal plate to avoid damaging the seating surface.
* Apply a thin layer of automatic transmission sealant so that it does not get on the drive shaft splines.
* Tighten the drive-to-transmission bolts to the torque specified in the technical manual for your specific vehicle.
