Automatic transmission selector position sensor (PRNDL)

Functions:

* Determines the position of the gear selector (P, R, N, D, L)
* Transmits information to the automatic transmission control unit to select the appropriate operating mode

Location:

* Typically found on the transmission housing or shift lever

Causes of malfunction:

* Worn or damaged sensor
* Problems with wiring or connectors
* Malfunction of the automatic transmission control unit

Possible symptoms of a malfunctioning PRNDL sensor:

* Incorrect indication of gear position on the instrument panel
* Automatic transmission does not shift to the selected gear
* Parking mode is not activated, which makes it impossible to remove the ignition key
* Cruise control system malfunction
* Gear shifting is accompanied by bumps or jolts
