Overrunning clutch in automatic transmission Hyundai Accent
Purpose:
The overrunning clutch (OC) is an automatic transmission component that allows the transmission input shaft to rotate faster than the output shaft. This is necessary to implement the freewheeling or overtaking function, when the engine and transmission are disconnected while coasting (without pressing the gas pedal).
Working principle:
OM consists of two main parts:
* Inner ring with teeth connected to the input shaft
* Outer ring with ratchet mechanism connected to the output shaft
When the input shaft rotates faster than the output shaft, the teeth on the inner ring engage the outer ring’s ratchet mechanism, allowing the input shaft to continue to rotate freely.
When the output shaft rotates faster than the input shaft, the ratchet mechanism slides over the teeth of the inner ring, separating the input and output shafts.
Location:
In a Hyundai Accent automatic transmission, the overrunning clutch is usually located on the input shaft and is connected to the first gear gear.
Malfunctions:
Overrunning clutch malfunctions can result in the following symptoms:
* Noises and vibrations when accelerating and shifting gears
* Jerks and slipping when starting and changing gears
* Loss of power during freewheeling
Replacement:
Replacing the overrunning clutch usually requires removing the automatic transmission. This is a complex procedure that should be performed by a qualified mechanic.
