Overdrive in automatic transmission Hyundai Accent

Overdrive is the highest gear in an automatic transmission (automatic transmission). Designed for driving at constant speed on highways.

Operating principle

* Overdrive is activated when a certain speed is reached, usually around 80 km/h.
* When overdrive is engaged, torque from the engine is transferred to the transmission through several additional gears, increasing the gear ratio.
* This allows the engine to run at lower RPMs at the same speed, resulting in fuel savings.

Benefits of Overdrive

* Fuel Saving: Engine runs at lower speeds, consuming less fuel.
* Quieter operation: Lower engine speeds reduce noise levels in the cabin.
* Longer range: The car consumes less fuel, allowing you to travel more kilometers on a single tank.

Turning off overdrive

Overdrive can be disabled in the following cases:

* Climbing: When climbing steep hills, you may need to turn off the overdrive to provide more torque to the engine.
* Towing: When towing a trailer or heavy load, it is also recommended to turn off the overdrive to avoid overloading the engine.
* Winter Driving Mode: Disabling overdrive can improve traction in winter conditions because lower engine speeds provide more torque to the drive wheels.

Overdrive control in Hyundai Accent

In the Hyundai Accent, overdrive is controlled using a button labeled “O/D” on the shift panel. When the button is pressed, overdrive is enabled. When the button is not pressed, overdrive is disabled.
