Warming up the automatic transmission in frosty weather
1. Start the engine and let it run: Run the engine at idle speed for 5-10 minutes to allow the engine and transmission fluid to warm up. This will help lubricate the transmission parts and improve gear shifting.
2. Shift the shift lever to the “D” position: After the engine has warmed up, shift the shift lever to the “D” (Drive) position and hold the brake. This engages the transmission and allows oil to circulate through the system.
3. Press the gas pedal to a third: Without releasing the brake, lightly press the gas pedal to a third of the maximum travel. Keep the vehicle in this state for 1-2 minutes, allowing the transmission fluid to warm up under load.
4. Increase engine speed gradually: Increase engine speed slowly until it reaches 1500-2000 rpm. Keep the car in this condition for another 1-2 minutes.
5. Release the brake and ride: Smoothly release the brake and start driving. During the first few kilometers, avoid sudden acceleration or braking. This will allow the transmission to continue to warm up in real-world conditions.
Note:
*Always follow the vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations.
* It is not recommended to warm up the automatic transmission while driving in place (in a parking lot). Vehicle movement is necessary for proper oil circulation.
*If your automatic transmission has a sport mode, do not use it to warm up as it may increase the load on the transmission.
*Change transmission fluid regularly according to manufacturer’s recommendations.
