Video tutorial: how to use an automatic transmission

Step 1: Find out the location of the shift knob

* It is usually located on the center console between the front seats.
*It also has panel markings such as PRNDL.

Step 2: Understand Shift Knob Designations

*P (Parking): Locks the transmission when the vehicle is parked.
* R (Reverse): Shifts the vehicle into reverse gear.
* N (Neutral): The transmission is not engaged and the vehicle is not moving.
* D (Drive): The main gear for moving the car forward.
* L (Low): Used for low speed or rough terrain.

Step 3: Start the engine

* Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the ‘ON’ position.
* Press and hold the brake pedal.

Step 4: Select Gear

* Move the gear shift knob to the desired position.
* Release the brake pedal and the car will start moving.

Step 5: Shift While Driving

* To shift to a higher gear, press the accelerator pedal and let the engine rev up.
* To downshift, release the gas pedal and press the brake pedal. The gear shift knob will automatically shift to a lower gear.

Step 6: Stop

* To stop the car, press the brake pedal.
* Stop the vehicle completely and move the gear shift knob to ‘P’ position.

Additional tips:

* Do not change gears without pressing the brake pedal.
* Do not keep the gas pedal pressed constantly, especially when stopping.
*Service your transmission regularly to keep it running properly.
