How to use a Toyota automatic transmission
1. Gear shift lever (P)
* P (Parking): Places the transmission in the park position, locking the transmission. Used when the car is parked.
* R (Reverse): Sets the transmission to reverse.
* N (Neutral): Sets the transmission to neutral, does not engage the gear. Used when towing or warming up the engine.
* D (Drive): Sets the transmission to the forward driving position. The car automatically switches between gears depending on speed and load.
*S (Sport): Holds gears longer, providing a sportier driving experience.
* M (Manual): Allows the driver to manually change gears using the steering wheel paddles or gear lever.
2. Accelerator pedal
* Press the accelerator pedal to increase the speed of the car.
* Release the accelerator pedal to slow down.
3. Brake pedal
* Press the brake pedal to slow down or stop the car.
4. Gear shift button (optional)
*Some Toyota models have a gear shift button on the gear shift lever.
*Press the button to change gears or place the transmission in neutral.
Tips for driving with an automatic Toyota:
*Always place the transmission in Park (P) position when the vehicle is parked.
* Do not change gears while driving.
* Do not press the gas and brake at the same time, as this may damage the transmission.
*If you get stuck in snow or mud, shift to S (Sport) for more traction.
*If you are towing a trailer, shift to S (Sport) or M (Manual) for improved towing efficiency.
* Maintain the automatic transmission regularly, following the manufacturer’s recommendations.
