Shifting gears on a Chevrolet Cruze with an automatic transmission:

1. Start the engine: Press the engine start button once or twice until the engine starts.

2. Press the brake pedal: Place your right foot on the brake pedal and press it down.

3. Select gear position: Move the gear lever to the desired position:

*P (Parking): To park the vehicle and keep it from moving.
* R (reverse): To move the vehicle backwards.
* N (neutral): To put the vehicle in neutral when the engine is running but the vehicle is not moving.
* D (Drive): To move the vehicle forward under normal driving conditions.
* L (low gear): For driving the vehicle at low speeds or for climbing steep hills.

4. Release the brake pedal: After selecting the gear position, slowly release the brake pedal.

5. Acceleration: Press the accelerator pedal to gain speed. The automatic transmission will automatically change gears as you gain speed.

Note:

* Always press down on the brake pedal before changing gears.
* Do not shift gears from P to other positions while the engine is running.
*If you need to quickly accelerate or slow down, use the transmission mode “L” or “manual shift mode” if your vehicle has one, to manually control the gears.
*Service your automatic transmission regularly according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.
