How to unlock a Kia car’s transmission
Method 1: Using the unlock switch
1. Make sure the vehicle is in Park (P) mode.
2. Locate the transmission release switch. It is usually located near or under the gear lever.
3. Press and hold the unlock switch.
4. At the same time, move the gear shift lever to the desired position.
Method 2: Using a key
1. Insert the key into the ignition.
2. While holding the brake pedal, turn the key to approximately the ACC (accessory) position.
3. Press and hold the transmission release switch or locate the small release lever under the shift lever.
4. At the same time, move the gear shift lever to the desired position.
Method 3: Any method using an override switch
1. Press the brake pedal.
2. Locate the shutoff switch. It is usually located under the steering column or on the fuse box.
3. Press the shut-off switch button or lever.
4. Use one of the two methods described above to unlock the transmission.
