Automatic transmission training operation
Target:
* Optimize the operation of the automatic transmission after changing the oil by resetting adaptive data and adjusting gear shift parameters.
Required tools and materials:
* High-quality gear oil that meets vehicle manufacturer specifications
* Automatic transmission dipstick
* OBD-II scanner (optional)
Steps:
1. Check the oil level:
* Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes to warm up the transmission.
* Shift the gear selector to all positions and return to Park.
* Check the oil level using the automatic transmission dipstick. Add oil if necessary.
2. Reset adaptive data:
* Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery for two minutes.
* Connect the negative terminal.
* Start the engine and let it idle for ten minutes without changing gears.
* Turn off the engine.
3. Gear shift training:
Method 1: Manual training
* Start the engine and let it idle for two minutes.
*Switch to manual shift mode (if equipped).
* Accelerate slowly and shift through each gear manually.
* Once you have reached maximum gear, stop the vehicle and move the gear selector to the “Park” position.
Method 2: Automatic learning (without using a scanner)
* Start the engine and let it idle for five minutes.
* Shift the gear selector to all positions and return to Park.
* Repeat the process three times.
Method 3: Automatic learning (using a scanner)
* Connect the OBD-II scanner to the vehicle’s diagnostic port.
* Follow the scanner instructions to access the automatic transmission control module.
* Select the option “Automatic transmission training” or “Reset adaptation values”.
4. Completion of the procedure:
* Turn off the engine.
*Wait a few minutes.
* Start the engine and check the operation of the automatic transmission. Gear changes should be smooth and timely.
Notes:
* Don’t interrupt the learning process.
*If you have problems learning the automatic transmission, contact a qualified mechanic.
* Automatic transmission training is recommended to be performed after changing the oil every 25,000-50,000 km.
*Using high quality gear oil is critical to automatic transmission life and performance.
