Materials:

* Tool kit (wrenches, flat head screwdriver)
* A piece of cardboard or a piece of wood

Steps:

1. Make sure it’s safe. Set the parking brake and block the wheels with chocks. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

2. Determine the location of the brake band adjuster. It is usually located on the side of the automatic transmission near the gear shift lever.

3. Loosen the lock nuts. Use a wrench to loosen the two lock nuts that hold the brake band adjuster in place. Do not remove them completely.

4. Insert a piece of cardboard or wood. Insert a small piece of cardboard or wood between the brake band adjuster and the transmission housing. This will prevent it from moving when the nut is tightened.

5. Tighten the nut. Use a flathead screwdriver to tighten the adjustment nut. Tighten it one turn at a time until you feel moderate resistance.

6. Remove the gasket. Remove a piece of cardboard or wood.

7. Tighten the lock nuts. Tighten the two lock nuts to secure the brake band adjuster in place.

8. Check the tension of the brake band. Check the brake band tension according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

9. Repeat for other brake bands (if any). If your automatic transmission has multiple brake bands, repeat this process for each one.

10. Connect the battery. Reconnect the negative terminal of the battery.

Adviсe:

* Do not over-tighten the brake bands as this may cause wear or breakage.
*If you are unsure of the procedure, consult a professional mechanic.
* Check the brake band tension regularly, especially after changing the brake linings or automatic transmission oil.
