Pre-check

* Visually inspect the transmission for leaks, damage or rust.
* Check the transmission fluid (ATF) level and make sure it is clean and does not smell burning.
* Read fault codes if the warning light is present or problems with the automatic transmission are observed.

Road test

1. Smooth gear shifting: Accelerate the car to a speed of about 20 km/h and gently press the gas pedal. The gearbox should shift smoothly and without jerking.
2. Downshift: When you reach a speed of about 60 km/h, press the brake pedal and feel the transmission downshift. This should happen in a timely manner and without shock.
3. Stretch: Keep the gas pedal pressed for about 30 seconds at a constant speed. The transmission must hold a gear until a shift is required.
4. Kickdown: At a constant speed, press the gas pedal hard. The transmission must shift to a lower gear to provide acceleration.
5. Towing a Trailer: If your vehicle has a tow bar, attach the trailer and pull it a short distance. Make sure that the transmission shifts correctly and does not overheat.

Additional checks

*Checking RPM: Use a scanner or tachometer to check the engine RPM when shifting gears. They should match the expected values.
* Pressure check: If available, measure the transmission hydraulic system pressure. It must be within the specified parameters.
* Checking the clutch: Park the car and switch to “P” or “N” mode. Try switching to “R” or “D” mode and feel the degree of resistance. It must be sufficient to prevent the vehicle from moving.

Important Notes:

* During testing, be careful and careful.
* Do not delay servicing the automatic transmission in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.
*Any serious problems found during testing must be diagnosed and repaired by a qualified mechanic.
