How to properly start a car with an automatic transmission

1. Make sure the car is parked on a level surface. Apply the parking brake.
2. Insert the key into the ignition. The key must be in the «accessories» position.
3. Press the brake pedal. This action must be performed before starting the engine to prevent the vehicle from rolling.
4. Move the gear shift lever to the Park (P) position. If the vehicle is started in a different selector position, personal injury or vehicle damage may result.
5. Press the engine start button. Keep the brake pedal depressed until the engine starts. The engine should start without delay.
6. Release the engine start button. After starting the engine, release the brake pedal.
7. Wait a few seconds before shifting into gear. This will give the automatic transmission time to establish a connection with the engine.
8. Select the desired gear. Typically, cars with automatic transmissions have D (drive), R (reverse), N (neutral) and P (park) modes.

Note:

*Some vehicles require you to press the start/stop button in addition to pressing the brake pedal.
*If the engine does not start or the starter makes a clicking noise, the battery may be low.
* Never leave a running vehicle with the engine running unattended.
