Tools and materials:

* Transmission fluid ATF+4 (for Ford)
*Transmission pan and gasket
*Transmission filter
* Wrench set
* Drain plug wrench
* Funnel
* Rags

Procedure:

1. Preparation

* Make sure the car is parked on a level surface.
* Put the car on the parking brake.
* Allow the engine to cool.

2. Draining transmission fluid

* Locate the drain plug in the transmission pan.
* Place a tray under the drain plug.
*Using a wrench, carefully unscrew the drain plug and drain the fluid into the pan.
* When all the fluid has drained, tighten the drain plug back to a torque of 22 Nm.

3. Removing the transmission pan

* Remove the bolts or screws securing the transmission pan.
* Carefully separate the pan from the transmission housing.
* Inspect the pan for metal shavings or other impurities.

4. Replacing the transmission filter

* Remove the transmission filter from the transmission housing.
* Install the new filter, making sure the arrow on the filter points in the direction of fluid flow.

5. Installing the transmission pan

* Apply a new gasket to the transmission pan.
* Attach the pan to the transmission housing and tighten the bolts or screws crosswise to a tightening torque of 10 Nm.

6. Filling transmission fluid

*Locate the fluid fill plug on the side of the transmission housing.
* Insert a funnel into the filler hole and fill with new ATF+4 transmission fluid.
* Fill in approximately 4 liters of liquid.

7. Checking the fluid level

* Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes.
* Shift the gear selector to all positions and return to the park position.
* Turn off the engine and wait a few minutes for the fluid to drain into the pan.
* Remove the dipstick to check the fluid level.
* The fluid level should be between the “Hot” and “Cold” marks on the dipstick.

8. Add liquid if necessary

*If the fluid level is low, add more fluid through the filler hole.
* Check the fluid level again and repeat the procedure if necessary.

9. Reset transmission adaptation

*After changing the fluid, you need to reset the transmission adaptation so that it learns your driving habits again.
* Start the engine and let it idle for 5 minutes.
* Shift the gear selector to all positions and return to the park position.
* Turn off the engine and wait 30 seconds.
* Restart the engine and let it idle for 5 minutes.

10. Conclusion

* Make sure the fluid level is correct.
* Check for leaks.
* Dispose of old transmission fluid properly.
