Automatic transmission brake band adjustment

Materials:

* Wrench set
* Dipstick
* Torque wrench
* Magazine paper

Setup steps:

1. Prepare the car

* Stop the engine.
* Put the car on the handbrake.
* Install wheel chocks under the rear wheels.

2. Warm up the transmission

* Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
* Shift all gears several times to warm up the transmission.

3. Adjust the tape

* Locate the brake band adjusting screw on the automatic transmission. It is usually located on the side or bottom of the transmission housing.
* Loosen the locknut on the adjusting screw.
*Using a wrench, tighten or loosen the adjustment screw until the dipstick engages the adjustment nut.
* Pull the dipstick and insert a small piece of magazine paper between the adjusting nut and the tape.
*Tighten the adjusting screw 1/8 to 1/4 turn until the paper is clamped between the nut and the tape.
* Take out the paper and tighten the lock nut.

4. Check the belt tension

*Using a torque wrench, tighten the brake band housing bolts to manufacturer specifications.

5. Reset your computer

* Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery for 5-10 minutes.
* Reconnect the battery terminal.

6. Check the transmission

* Start the engine and let it run.
* Shift all gears and check if the transmission shifts smoothly.

Note:

* Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions when adjusting the automatic transmission brake band.
* Incorrect adjustment may damage the transmission.
*If you are not experienced in servicing your transmission, it is recommended that you take it to a qualified mechanic.
