Tools and materials:
* Set of socket wrenches
* Inspection mirror
* Crankshaft pulley or camshaft retainer bolt
* Torque wrench
Note: The procedure may vary depending on the vehicle model. Before starting work, read the vehicle service manual.
Steps:
1. Place the vehicle in park position.
2. Disconnect the battery.
3. Locate the marks on the crankshaft and camshaft.
*The mark on the crankshaft is usually located on a pulley or gear.
*The mark on the camshaft is usually located on the camshaft sprocket.
4. Turn the crankshaft clockwise using a crankshaft or pulley bolt wrench.
* Inspect the mark on the crankshaft. The camshaft mechanism must be installed in place (all marks must match).
5. Use a mirror and a flashlight to check the marks on the camshafts.
* Make sure the marks on the camshafts also match.
6. Set the crankshaft to TDC position.
*Use the crankshaft position indicator (if equipped) or visually align the marks on the pulley or gear.
7. Tighten the camshaft clamp bolt.
*Use a torque wrench to tighten the bolt to manufacturer specifications.
8. Replace the timing belt and cover.
9. Connect the battery.
10. Check engine operation.
Start the engine and make sure it runs smoothly and quietly.
