Required materials:
* Multimeter
* Wires
Steps:
1. Make sure it’s safe. Disconnect power from the automatic transmission and vehicle.
2. Locate the solenoid valve coil leads. Consult the automatic transmission owner’s manual to determine the location of the terminals.
3. Set the multimeter to resistance measurement mode.
4. Connect one of the multimeter probes to the first terminal.
5. Connect another multimeter probe to the second terminal.
6. Read the resistance reading.
Expected results:
* 0 Ohm: The coil is OK.
* Infinity (continuity): The coil is damaged, burnt out or has a break.
*High resistance (eg several megohms): The coil has internal damage or malfunction.
Additional tips:
* If the coil is damaged, replace the solenoid valve.
* If the resistance reading is within the normal range, check the electrical circuit for other faults.
* Before performing any diagnostic work or repairs, read the automatic transmission operating manual.
