Instructions for resetting automatic transmission adaptation on a BMW E38

Materials:

* INPA cable
* INPA software

Steps:

1. Connect the INPA cable to the OBD II diagnostic port: The port is usually located under the steering column or in the glove compartment.

2. Open INPA software: Launch INPA software on your computer.

3. Select the car model: In the main menu of the INPA program, select “E38”.

4. Select the transmission control unit: Go to the “Funktionsauswahl” section and select “Getriebe (Trans).”

5. Go to the adaptation menu: From the transmission menu, select “Adaption”.

6. Select automatic adaptation: In the adaptation menu, select “Automatikgetriebe (Automatic transmission)”.

7. Reset all adaptations: In the automatic transmission menu, select “Alle Adaptionen zur?cksetzen (Reset all adaptations)”.

8. Confirm reset: Confirm reset by clicking “OK”.

9. Disconnect the INPA cable: Disconnect the INPA cable from the OBD II diagnostic port.

Important Notes:

*Be sure to allow the engine to cool before performing a reset.
* Resetting adaptation will result in the loss of stored parameters such as shift smoothness and torque converter lock-up torque.
* After the reset, adaptation relearning will be required, which may take some driving time.
*If you have any doubts or concerns, consult a qualified mechanic.
