Materials:
* New automatic transmission filter
* Automatic transmission filter gasket
* Automatic transmission fluid (if necessary)
* Wrench for automatic transmission filter (special or adjustable wrench)
* Funnel
* Rags
* Container for draining old automatic transmission fluid
Steps:
1. Ensure safety: Place the gear shift in the Park position and apply the parking brake.
2. Find the automatic transmission pan: Raise the car on a lift or place it on jacks. Locate the transmission pan, usually the metal pan at the bottom of the transmission.
3. Drain the automatic transmission fluid: Remove the drain plug of the automatic transmission pan and drain the fluid into a previously prepared container. Be careful as the liquid may be hot.
4. Remove the automatic transmission pan: Unscrew the bolts securing the automatic transmission pan. Remove the pan, being careful not to damage the gasket.
5. Replace the automatic transmission filter: Unscrew the bolts securing the old automatic transmission filter and remove it. Install the new filter and tighten the bolts.
6. Replace the automatic transmission filter gasket: Remove the old filter gasket from the automatic transmission pan and install a new gasket.
7. Install the automatic transmission pan: Clean the surface of the automatic transmission pan and the gearbox cover from old sealant. Apply a thin layer of new sealant to the surface of the pan. Install the automatic transmission pan and tighten the bolts.
8. Fill with automatic transmission fluid: Locate the automatic transmission fluid fill hole on the side of the transmission. Insert a funnel and pour new automatic transmission fluid into the transmission.
9. Check the automatic transmission fluid level: Start the engine and warm it up to operating temperature. Measure the automatic transmission fluid level using the transmission oil dipstick. Add fluid if necessary.
10. Reset the automatic transmission fluid change counter: Refer to your vehicle’s owner’s manual to learn how to reset the automatic transmission fluid change counter. This can usually be done by connecting the scanner to the vehicle’s diagnostic portal.
