Required tools:
* Rag
* Pliers
*Adapter (may not be needed)
Instructions:
1. Place the vehicle in Park (P) and apply the parking brake.
2. Remove the cover around the gear shift knob.
– For most cars, the cover is simply pryed off or removed using pliers.
– Some vehicles may have a safety pin that must be removed before removing the cover.
3. Disconnect the electrical wiring connector (if equipped).
– Some cars have a wiring connector connected to the gear shift knob. If there is one, disconnect it.
4. Determine the type of fastening of the gear shift knob.
There are two main types of fastenings:
* Latch: This type of mount has a small plastic latch or tab that must be pressed or unscrewed to remove the shift knob.
* Ring Retainer: This type of mount has a metal ring that must be unscrewed or removed.
5. Remove the gear shift knob.
* Latch: Press or unscrew the latch, then pull the handle up and remove it.
* Ring Retainer: Unscrew or disconnect the ring, then pull the handle up and remove it.
*If your shift knob has an adapter, it will also need to be removed.
6. Install a new gear shift knob.
* Insert the new gear shift knob into the gear shift lever.
*Press the handle until you hear a click or until it clicks into place.
* Reinstall the ring retainer or latch.
7. Connect the electrical wiring connector (if equipped).
8. Install the cover around the shift knob.
9. Check the gear shift lever for proper operation.
– Move the gearshift lever to different positions and make sure that it shifts smoothly and interacts correctly with the gearbox.
