Required tools:
* Wrench set
* Bucket for collecting automatic transmission fluid
* 4 liter automatic transmission fluid container
Precautions:
* Before starting work, put the car on the parking brake and disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
* When removing the shift lever, be careful not to damage the internal components of the transmission.
Instructions:
1. Drain the automatic transmission fluid:
* Find the drain plug on the automatic transmission oil pan and place a bucket under it to collect the fluid.
* Loosen the plug and allow the liquid to drain.
* Tighten the drain plug after all the liquid has drained.
2. Disconnect the drive shaft:
* Take the correct size wrench and loosen the bolts holding the drive shaft to the transmission.
* Carefully slide the drive shaft off the transmission, being careful not to damage the O-rings.
3. Disconnect the electrical connectors:
* Locate the electrical connectors connected to the shift lever and disconnect them.
* Make sure the connectors are labeled so they can be easily reconnected.
4. Remove the slide:
* Carefully slide the shifter up the shift lever to release it.
* Lower the rocker and remove it from its place.
5. Remove the gear shift lever:
* Remove the bolts securing the shift lever to the transmission using a wrench.
* Carefully pull the gear lever up and out of position.
*Please be aware that a small amount of automatic transmission fluid may leak when removing the shift lever.
6. Install a new gear shift lever:
* Place the new shift lever on the transmission.
* Tighten the bolts securing the gear shift lever using a wrench.
7. Install the rocker:
*Place the rocker back into place and slide it down to secure it to the shift lever.
8. Connect the electrical connectors:
* Connect the electrical connectors to the gear shift lever.
* Make sure the connectors are securely fastened.
9. Install the drive shaft:
* Slide the drive shaft back into place on the transmission.
* Tighten the bolts securing the drive shaft using a wrench.
10. Fill the automatic transmission fluid:
* Open the hood and find the automatic transmission fluid dipstick.
* Add enough automatic transmission fluid to the crankcase to reach the “F” mark on the dipstick.
*Check the fluid level again after the vehicle has been idling for a few minutes. Add more liquid if necessary.
11. Connect the negative terminal of the battery:
* Connect the negative terminal of the battery.
* Start the engine and check whether the gear shift lever operates correctly.
Note:
*If you are unsure of your ability to remove the automatic transmission shifter yourself, consult a qualified mechanic.
* Changing the automatic transmission fluid is recommended after removing the gear shift lever to ensure proper transmission operation.
