Materials:

* New gear shifter (if required)
* Phillips screwdriver
* Clean rag

Steps:

1. Stop the engine and disconnect the negative battery terminal. This will de-energize the vehicle and prevent accidental activation of the airbags.

2. Remove the gear shift knob cover.
* Carefully pry off the trim surrounding the shift knob using a Phillips screwdriver or prying tool.
*Remove the panel and disconnect any electrical connector that may be connected to the switch.

3. Set to neutral position. This will make it easier to remove the handle.

4. Press the shift knob release button. The button is usually located on or near the gear shift knob.

5. Pull the gear shift knob up and remove it. Keep the unlock button pressed while you pull the handle up.

6. Check the condition of the gear shift knob. If the handle is damaged or worn, it should be replaced.

7. Install a new gear shift knob.
*If a new knob is required, align it with the shift rod and push down until it snaps into place.
* Reconnect any electrical connector that was previously disconnected.

8. Install the shift knob cover.
* Attach the cover to the dashboard, aligning it with the edges.
*Press the cover lightly until it snaps into place.

9. Connect the negative terminal of the battery.

10. Check the operation of the gear shift knob. Shift through different gears to make sure the gear changes work correctly.
