Materials and tools:
* Wrench set
* Flat head screwdriver
* Torx screwdriver
* Plastic spatula or scraper
* Transmission fluid to replace (optional)
Steps for removing the automatic transmission Volkswagen Passat B5 Plus:
1. Keep it safe
* Apply the parking brake.
* Place wheel chocks under the wheels.
* Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
2. Remove the air filter
* Open the hood.
* Unscrew the two bolts using a wrench and remove the air filter cover.
* Pull out the air filter.
3. Disconnect electrical connectors
* Locate the electrical connectors connected to the automatic transmission.
* Gently press the terminal clamps and disconnect them.
4. Remove the cooling hoses
* Loosen the clamps on the cooling hoses connected to the automatic transmission using a wrench.
* Disconnect the hoses.
* Drain the transmission fluid into a prepared container (if you plan to change the fluid).
5. Unscrew the propeller shaft mounting bolts
* Place a flathead screwdriver into the slot on the bolt securing the propeller shaft to the automatic transmission.
*Hold the screwdriver in place to prevent the shaft from rotating.
* Loosen the bolt using a wrench.
* Repeat the process for the other driveshaft bolt.
6. Remove the driveshaft
* Unscrew the bolts securing the propeller shaft flange to the rear axle gearbox.
* Move the driveshaft to the side.
7. Remove the starter
* Unscrew the starter mounting bolts using a wrench.
* Disconnect the electrical connector from the starter.
* Remove the starter from the vehicle.
8. Unscrew the torque converter mounting bolts
* Loosen the bolts securing the torque converter to the automatic transmission using a wrench.
9. Unscrew the bolts securing the torque converter to the engine
* Lower the vehicle onto a lift or jacks.
* Locate the torque converter to engine flywheel bolts from underneath the vehicle.
*Loosen these bolts using a wrench.
10. Disconnect the automatic transmission
* Unscrew the bolts securing the automatic transmission to the engine and subframe.
* Carefully move the automatic transmission away from the engine.
* Use a plastic spatula or scraper to carefully remove the automatic transmission from the engine, overcoming the resistance of the torque converter.
11. Completely remove the automatic transmission
* Carefully pull the transmission forward and downward to remove it completely from the vehicle.
