Required tools and materials:
* Set of socket wrenches
* Screwdriver set
* Battery puller
* Wheel chocks
* Jack
* Jack stands
* Oil collection container
* New drain plug o-ring
* New gear oil
Steps:
1. Park the vehicle and jack it up: Place wheel chocks behind the rear wheels and jack up the front of the vehicle. Install jack stands for added safety.
2. Disconnect the battery terminal: Using a battery puller, disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Drain transmission oil: Place a container to catch the oil under the transmission drain plug. Carefully unscrew the drain plug and drain the oil. Replace the drain plug O-ring and screw the plug back into place.
4. Disconnect the shift lever: Locate the shift lever under the vehicle. Disconnect the connecting rod and slide off the rubber protective cover. Unscrew the nut securing the shift lever to the transmission and disconnect the lever.
5. Disconnect electrical connectors: Under the hood, locate the transmission and disconnect all electrical connectors connected to the sensors and solenoids.
6. Disconnect the drive shafts: Using a socket wrench, remove the bolts securing the drive shafts to the wheels. Then carefully remove the drive shafts from the transmission.
7. Unscrew the starter: Locate the starter attached to the transmission. Remove the bolts securing the starter and carefully separate it from the transmission.
8. Unscrew the bolts securing the automatic transmission to the engine: Using a socket wrench, unscrew the bolts securing the transmission to the engine.
9. Carefully remove the automatic transmission: With the help of an assistant, carefully lift and separate the transmission from the engine. Be careful not to damage the transmission or engine.
10. Remove the automatic transmission completely: Carefully pull the transmission out from under the car.
Note:
* Be sure to drain transmission oil while the transmission is warm.
*If you are unsure, consult a qualified mechanic.
*Before installing a new transmission, be sure to fill it with new transmission oil.
