Required tools:

* Wrench set
* Flat blade screwdriver
* Phillips screwdriver

Instructions:

1. Disconnect the battery

* Open the hood and locate the negative (-) battery terminal.
* Loosen the terminal nut and remove the terminal from the battery.

2. Drain the transmission fluid

* Locate the transmission drain plug, usually located on the transmission pan.
* Place a container under the plug to catch the liquid and loosen the plug.
* Drain all transmission fluid.

3. Disconnect the shift cable

* Disconnect the shift cable from the transmission. To do this, find a bracket or clamp on the cable and remove it.

4. Disconnect electrical connectors

* Disconnect all electrical connectors from the transmission, including the speed sensor, shift position sensor and solenoids.

5. Disconnect the drive shaft

* Locate the drive shafts connected to the gearbox. There will be either two or one.
* Loosen the bolts securing the drive shafts to the gearbox.
* Remove the drive shafts from the gearbox.

6. Disconnect the starter

*Locate the starter attached to the transmission.
* Loosen the bolts holding the starter to the transmission.
* Disconnect the starter from the gearbox.

7. Support the gearbox

*Use a jack or stands to support the transmission.

8. Disconnect the transmission mounts

* Locate the upper and lower transmission mounts that secure it to the engine and body.
* Loosen and remove all mounting bolts.

9. Remove the gearbox

* Carefully pull the transmission back and separate it from the engine.
* Lower the transmission and remove it from under the vehicle.

10. Installation of a new gearbox

* Reinstall the new transmission by following steps 9-1 again.
* Fill the transmission with new transmission fluid.
* Connect the battery and check the operation of the gearbox.
