Tools and materials:
* Set of wrenches or ratchets
* Drive belt
* Handle extension
* Crankshaft pulley retainer
Procedure:
1. Ensure safety:
* Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
* Set the car to the parking brake and block the wheels.
2. Remove the drive belt:
* Loosen the drive belt tensioner bolt.
* Remove the belt from the crankshaft pulley.
3. Lock the crankshaft pulley:
* Install the crankshaft pulley retainer. This is a special tool that locks the pulley, preventing it from rotating.
4. Loosen the crankshaft pulley bolt:
* Using a handle extension and an appropriate wrench or ratchet, loosen the crankshaft pulley bolt.
*WARNING: Do not remove the bolt completely at this stage.
5. Use a shear bolt:
* If the crankshaft pulley bolt is difficult to loosen, use a shear bolt. The shear bolt is driven into the crankshaft pulley bolt, which creates additional force to loosen it.
6. Remove the pulley from the gearbox:
*Once the crankshaft pulley bolt is sufficiently loosened, remove the retainer.
* Be careful and hold the pulley as it may fall.
7. Remove the crankshaft pulley:
* Remove the crankshaft pulley bolt completely.
* Remove the pulley from the crankshaft.
8. Install the new pulley:
* Install a new pulley on the crankshaft.
* Install and tighten the crankshaft pulley bolt. Torque it to manufacturer specifications.
9. Install the drive belt and tighten the tensioner:
* Install the drive belt onto the crankshaft pulley and related pulleys.
* Tighten the drive belt tensioner.
10. Connect the negative terminal of the battery:
* Connect the negative terminal of the battery.
*Check that all parts are installed correctly and ensure that the engine operates normally.
