Materials and tools:

* New transmission filter
* Oil pan gasket
* Oil pan bolts
* Funnel
* Oil drain container
* Rags
* Fresh transmission fluid
* Torque wrench (optional, but recommended)

Steps:

1. Prepare the vehicle: Place the vehicle on a level surface and apply the parking brake. Leave the engine running at idle speed.

2. Identify the automatic transmission oil pan: It is usually located at the bottom of the transmission and is a metal pan.

3. Gather Materials: Gather all the necessary materials and tools listed above.

4. Stop the engine and let it cool: Turn off the engine and let the transmission fluid cool. Hot fluid may cause burns.

5. Place a container under the oil pan: Place a container under the drain hole in the oil pan. The container must be large enough to contain all the fluid being drained.

6. Remove the drain bolt: Using a suitable wrench or hex key, carefully remove the drain bolt from the oil pan. The fluid will begin to merge.

7. Drain the fluid: Allow the fluid to drain into the container. This may take some time. Gently rock the oil pan to drain all fluid.

8. Replace the oil pan gasket: Clean the oil pan and the surrounding surface of the transmission of any old gasket residue. Install a new gasket.

9. Tighten the oil pan bolts: Reinstall the oil pan bolts and tighten them to the specified torque using a torque wrench (if equipped).

10. Add Fresh Fluid: Using a funnel, add fresh transmission fluid to the fill hole located on the side of the transmission.

11. Check fluid level: After adding a few quarts of fluid, start the engine and place the transmission in neutral (N). Then remove the oil dipstick and check the level and condition of the fluid. If necessary, add fluid.

12. Reset Adaptive Parameters (optional): Some vehicles require the transmission adaptive parameters to be reset after a fluid change. Follow the vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations for performing this procedure.

Precautions:

* Do not overtighten the oil pan bolts as this may damage the oil pan.
* Be careful when discharging hot fluid as it may cause burns.
*Follow the vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations for the type and amount of transmission fluid.
* Dispose of waste fluid properly.
